WHY RECYCLE?

On average each household in Scotland produces 1.46 tonnes of waste every year, everyone must deal with their waste, however some chose to simply send it to landfill sites, which is harmful to the environment and uses more energy by using the earths natural resources up.

It is becoming harder and more expensive to find landfill space and in order to become more sustainable we need to conserve our resources and ‘close the loop’, by recycling materials which can be recycled. In doing so, this allows materials which would become waste to be turned into valuable resources and generates a host of environmental, financial and social benefits.

Save Resources
by recycling resources can be saved, with most of what we throw away being made out of products which are slowly running out or cannot be quickly replaced due to the rate they are consumed. Many of the materials which we throw into landfill sites have a value and can be used again.

Save Energy
When products are made the process is extensive, creating pollution at many stages as it must first be extracted, processed, manufactured, consumed and finally disposed. Recycling allows a closed loop effect to occur as products are returned back to manufacturers for use in new products, preventing the pollution and destruction which occurs when raw materials like trees and metals are extracted from the earth.

Protect the environment
Reducing what we use and recycling materials reduces the need to dig up or mine new raw materials, which often damages the surrounding environment.

Create local jobs
Recycling creates jobs for local people, who otherwise may not have the opportunity whilst boosting the local economy.

Help give to those in need
By donating furniture to the Revive Rothesay furniture shop allows people on low incomes to purchase valuable furniture at a low cost, while those donating the furniture benefit from doing their part for the environment by recycling. All profits generated are then put back into providing recycling services in the local area.
